Ngày 2/9/1945, tại Quảng trường Ba Đình, Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh đọc Tuyên ngôn Độc lập, công bố nước Việt Nam Dân chủ Cộng hòa. Trích dẫn Tuyên ngôn Độc lập Mỹ (1776) và Tuyên ngôn Nhân quyền Pháp (1791), Bác khẳng định quyền bình đẳng, tự do, tự quyết của dân tộc, bác bỏ ách thống trị của thực dân Pháp và phát xít Nhật. Lời tuyên bố khơi dậy tinh thần yêu nước, trở thành kim chỉ nam cho các cuộc kháng chiến và định hình bản sắc Việt Nam. Nay, tư tưởng ấy tiếp tục truyền cảm hứng, nhấn mạnh độc lập và hội nhập quốc tế.
